Arrival: By train and bus to the World Championships
Visitors to the 51st FIL Luge World Championships in January 2023 and the BMW IBU Biathlon World Championships in February 2023 can travel to Oberhof by train and bus. The new offer, which includes selected lines of the public transport system, complements the previous transport concept of the World Cup hosts and takes into account the sustainability concept of the sporting events. For fans, the offer is included in the advance ticket price.
Oberhof/Erfurt - With their tickets purchased in advance, visitors to the luge and biathlon World Championships can travel on DB Regio and Süd.Thüringen.Bahn trains from the stations in Erfurt (RB 44, RE 7, RE 50), Bad Neustadt (Saale) (RE 7), Meiningen (RB 44, RE 50) and Wernshausen (RB 43) to the World Championships station in Zella-Mehlis. From there, they will be transported by shuttle buses to the EISARENA or the ARENA am Rennsteig.
The rail service will be supplemented by regular bus services. Fans can use direct bus lines from Gotha, Schmalkalden, Meiningen and Suhl to travel to Oberhof. Detailed information was provided by the organizers on their websites this Monday.
CONTRIBUTION TO MINIMIZING EMISSIONS
By expanding the existing transport concept to include additional offers for travel by train and bus, the organizers of the World Championships are making an important contribution to minimizing emissions from the events. This is linked to the approach of making both events as climate-friendly as possible. "For the first time in the history of Oberhof Winter Sports Events, fans will be able to travel to the EISARENA and the ARENA am Rennsteig using clearly defined public transport bus and train routes. I am glad that the organizers have taken up this challenge together with the Free State and that we are now taking an important step also for the future of the events in the Thuringian Forest", explained the World Championships and Oberhof representative of the Thuringian state government, Dr. Hartmut Schubert, today in Erfurt.
The new service has been created thanks to the support of the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture (TMIL) and the Thuringian State Office for Construction and Transport (TLBV) in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, Süd.Thüringen.Bahn and the bus companies MBB Meininger Busbetriebs GmbH (MBB), Städtische Nahverkehrsgesellschaft mbH Suhl/Zella-Mehlis (SNG) and Nahverkehrsgesellschaft des Landkreises Gotha mbH (NVG) and is part of the sustainability concept of the events. "Sustainability is an elementary component in the organization and realization of both World Championships 2023 in Oberhof. This started with the renovation of the sports facilities and is to be continued with the arrival of the fans. We are deliberately breaking new ground together," said Uwe Theisinger, president of the OC of the Luge World Championships, and Thomas Grellmann, president of the OC of the Biathlon World Championships.
Both Deutsche Bahn and Süd.Thüringen.Bahn see their support as a forward-looking measure for events in the Rennsteig region and the entire Thuringian Forest.

INDIVIDUELLE ANREISE WEITERHIN MÖGLICH
Das neue Angebot ergänzt die bisherigen Verkehrskonzepte der Ausrichter, die in den Vorjahren vor allem auf der individuellen Anreise der Besucherinnen und Besucher mit P+R Parkplätzen und der anschließenden Beförderung mit Pendelbussen zu den Sportstätten basierte. „Wir sind zuversichtlich, unseren Fans nunmehr einen guten Mix aus verschiedenen Anreisemöglichkeiten zu bieten. Wir raten dazu, die Anreise gut und mit Blick auf die Startzeiten der Wettkämpfe und auf die begrenzt zur Verfügung stehenden Kapazitäten im Bahnverkehr von/nach Zella-Mehlis zu planen, um rechtzeitig und sicher an den Sportstätten anzukommen“, sagten Uwe Theisinger und Thomas Grellmann.
Für die individuelle Anreise der Fans mit dem PKW stehen nach wie vor ausreichend P+R Parkplätze zur Verfügung, wobei sich die Parkplatzsituation beider Weltmeisterschaften unterscheidet. Für die Fans der Rodel-WM stehen Parkflächen im Stadtgebiet von Oberhof zur Verfügung. Von dort aus werden sie mit Shuttlebussen an die LOTTO Thüringen EISARENA befördert.
Da zu den Biathlon-Wettkämpfen bis zu 23.500 Fans pro Tag erwartet werden, stehen in der Stadt Oberhof keine Parkmöglichkeiten für Individualanreisende zur Verfügung. Stattdessen hält die Oberhofer Sport und Event GmbH P+R Parkplätze in Geratal (Thüringeti), Suhl-Nord und Zella-Mehlis sowie in Steinbach-Hallenberg mit insgesamt mehr als 11.000 Parkplätzen bereit. Von dort werden die Besucherinnen und Besucher mit kostenfreien Pendelbussen zur LOTTO Thüringen ARENA am Rennsteig befördert.
ZUM APRÉS-RACE UND APRÉS-SKI IN DIE STADTMITTE
Nach den Wettkämpfen ist vor den Siegerehrungen und Partys im Stadtzentrum. Rodel- und Biathlon-Fans können sich nach Rennende zwischen einer direkten Rückkehr zu den P+R Parkplätzen entscheiden oder sich zunächst in die Stadtmitte Oberhofs befördern lassen, um beispielsweise die Siegerehrungen auf der Medal Plaza zu verfolgen, oder dem Festzelt sowie den Ständen auf dem Startplatz einen Besuch abzustatten.
Für die Biathlonfans werden Pendelbusse zu den P+R Parkplätzen und zum WM-Bahnhof in Zella-Mehlis bis 22.30 Uhr (letzte Abfahrt ZOB Oberhof) bereitgestellt. Rodelfans werden bis 19:30 Uhr mit dem Shuttle zum WM-Bahnhof in Zella-Mehlis befördert.
